Cape Town Together
Community Organising
Spatial justice intervention
Date
March 2019
Cape Town Together is a network of self-organising neighbourhood level groups known as Community Action Networks (CANs) that emerged in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the height of the pandemic, 170 CANS and 20 000 people were involved. From sharing information and resources, to setting up community kitchens, the network became an integral part of the overall societal response, and helped to re-imagine our relationship to the city.
For more information about this initiative check out some of our creative documentation projects:
1) Dala Kitchen: a collection of short stories and recipes that documents the lessons, and celebrates the work of the CANs
2) Cape Town Together: a short documentary film about the emergence of the CANs and initial response to food insecurity
