Vaxi Taxi

The Vaxi Taxi turned public ambulances into mobile vaccination units and played an important part of the Covid-19 vaccination program in the Western Cape. It worked closely with community groups and became an exciting model of public participation. Prior to each event, door-to-door community mobilisation took place where community activists and EMS worked together to distribute flyers and answer vaccine related questions.

Also known as a ‘vaccine center on wheels’, this spatial justice intervention took Covid-19 vaccines to community kitchens, school halls, churches, cargo ships and many other local community structures in areas that would otherwise have been left behind.
