Green Corridor Project

Public Health

Spatial justice intervention

Date

October 2019 - current

The Green Corridor Project aims to disrupt patterns of spatial apartheid in Cape Town. This body of work is a series of ongoing trust building initiatives in the public ambulance service developing a community network that will act as a foundation to transform Cape Town's red zones into green corridors.

Red zones are parts of the city that have been declared too unsafe for ambulances to enter without police escorts. In these areas, we are working closely with neighbourhood based groups to find alternatives, create safe passage or green corridors for ambulances to provide care. In future we hope to collaborate with others to expand these green corridors making the city safer for all. Projects that form part of this initiative include the Vaxi Taxi, Community First Aid Responder (CFAR) program, the Gugulethu Community Ambulance and the Red Zone Paramedics film and community engagement project.
